Where is the building located?
Both our Upper School and Lower School buildings are located in the Kendall Square area of Cambridge at 245 Bent Street. Our Lower School is housed in a lovely 3 story building, a short walk from public transportation, athletic fields and facilities, and the heart of Cambridge's high-technology and bio-tech center. Renovations over the summer of 2007 have allowed us to move in to our beautiful new Upper School building directly across the parking lot.

Are there sports and electives?
CCSC is a member of the Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization. We have both girls and boys basketball, and co-ed soccer. These teams compete in the MCSAO. CCSC will begin its first baseball season in the spring of 2008. We are also launching softball and dance teams.
By the way... the CCSC boys basketball team won the MCSAO high school boys’ basketball 2007 tournament despite a roster that only had grades 7-10. Our bball team is dynamite.
CCSC offers a wide array of enrichment/elective courses. Students typically change enrichment courses each quarter. The 2007-2008 enrichment courses include: Yoga, Outdoor Leadership, Sports Information/Writing, Drawing/Visual Arts, Running, Hot Beats (digital music), Film Studies, and Baking.
What is the school calendar?
CCSC follows the same 180-day school calendar as Cambridge Public Schools, with the exception that our first two days of school are fall before Labor Day. This allows us to take two days in the end of January for faculty professional development.
In general, the school day begins at 8:30 AM fand ends at 3:41 PM. On Wednesdays, the day ends at 1:30 for students.

What is the dress code?
CCSC has a professional, safe, and respectful school environment. We all need to play the part! The dress code is in effect for the entire school day, except when students are in WAM or other activities that require special dress. The dress code applies to field trips, site visits, academic internships, and other school related activities, unless the supervising adult informs students otherwise.

How big are classes?
Each grade has between 30 and 60 students and class sizes typically range from 16 to 22 students. Some classes are co-taught (there is more than one teacher).
Is there transportation for students?
According the MA state law, Cambridge residents in grades 7 and 8 who live more than 1.5 miles from the school will be provided with transportation to and from school. Subsidized MBTA passes for students not eligible for district transportation are available for purchase each month. |
