Cougars Fall Just Short in Overtime Thriller!

After a lackluster loss on Friday against Foxborough Regional, the Cougars clawed back in their game against Phoenix Charter on Saturday in Chelsea. CCSC and Phoenix traded leads back and forth throughout the game as they tied up at halftime. Both teams made adjustments at the break as CCSC changed their defense to a box and one and PCA went into a trap defense. Both teams had their chances to end the game in regulation but the intense atmosphere from the home crowd and Lady Cougars rattled shots out for both teams. The Cougars drew first blood in overtime with a three pointer but PCA took over for the remaining three and a half minutes as they came away with a 45-44 win. Joshua Bonnie was the game’s leading scorer with 18 points but the referee took Shedane Richards of PCA and CCSC’s Treshon Walker to center court after the game to highlight their defense and effort.

Boys Earn their First Win!

On friday night, the boys earned their first win of the regular season in a 65-35 win against Salem Academy at MIT. With the return of Hykeem Terrell from an ankle injury, the Cougars’ deepest lineup of the year overwhelmed the boys from Salem. Will Sanchez led the way with a double-double with 14 points including five offensive rebounds in the first minutes of the first half. Thanks to Will’s effort in the post and a full-court press, the Cougars broke the game wide open with their intensity. Curtis King complemented Will in the post with 10 points while Joshua Bonnie scored 13 points to lead the guards in scoring. The Cougars will play away today at Hyde Park High School when they will face Academy of the Pacific Rim.

Winless Weekend for Boys

Against Prospect Hill, the boys suffered a blowout loss to the Wizards last Friday night. The Wizards from PHA started strong and did not let up. However, Joshua Bonnie impressed his teammates with a couple steals for an impressive debut. Despite the lack of depth in the team with injuries to Lovell Mumford and Hykeem Terrell, the boys did not show much fatigue but struggled against the size and speed of Prospect Hill.

Monday evening, KIPP Academy of Lynn grabbed a 49-40 win away from the Cougars’ claws. The Cougars had a 22-20 lead at halftime. Joshua Bonnie contributed 9 of those points in the first half, some from ugly but effective teardrop jump shots. However, KIPP made their adjustments at the half as the two teams battled back and forth for the lead. Even though Joshua played the entire 40 minutes, he did not score for the rest of the night. Big men Will Sanchez, Curtis King, and Xavier Hickson combined for 22 points to keep the Cougars in the game. However, KIPP pulled away at the end as the crowd and guards took over.
