"Raising Good Kids in Hard Times"
Robert Evans, Ph.D.
There is no harder job than being a parent. Nothing else touches so much of a person so deeply and there is no training for it. Today parents find it harder to know how to raise children well, how to resist negative influences in the media and culture, how to help foster strength and resilience in children. Rob Evans will outline key dilemmas in raising children and adolescents today and offer concrete suggestions for successful coping at home and school.
Dr. Evans is a clinical and organizational psychologist and the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Mass. A former high school and pre-school teacher, and a former child and family therapist, he has worked with schools and families for thirty years. He has consulted to nearly a thousand schools around the country. He is the author of many articles and two books, Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing, and The Human Side of School Change.

Boys Attend Rising Star Basketball School
Cougars gain experience as student-athletes and represent CCSC at local camp
July 5, 2007
WALTHAM, Mass. --

Chuck, Jude, Michael, Bayoan, Ariel, Darius, and Jeffrey pose on the last day of the camp
Eight CCSC boys' basketball players attended the Rising Star Basketball School at Waltham High School from June 25-June 29. During the intense week of basketball training, area high school and college coaches taught the Cougars new skills, offered drills, lectured, and coached the players in camp competitions and full-court games. Among the CCSC participants were rising juniors Chuck Tibbs, Jude Odige, Michael Elysee, Bayoan Garcia, Ariel Garcia, Jeffrey Garcia, and Wale Wright. Rising eighth grader, Darius Bass, was also a regular at the camp. Thanks to dedicated parents, friends of the program, and the director of Rising Star, Kevin O'Brien, the student-athletes were able to learn from some of Boston's best local coaches as well as meet and compete against high school stars from all over the area. Chuck was awarded "Camper of the Day" on Thursday while Darius's squad and Bayoan's team won their respective camp league championships.
