Basketball season is starting off pretty well for the CCSC basketball teams. The Boys’ team record is 2-3 and the Girls’ basketball team is also 2-3. The teams have played great these past few weeks. They have won a couple and lost a couple.
I am going to talk about the Boys basketball team first. The Boys basketball team played the South Shore team on December 17 and they won 49-24. I played in that game and it was definitely exciting. We played one of our best games in South Shore and we went in with a lot of confidence. Then we went to go play Prospect Hill Academy on December 20. That was our first rival game of the year and it was a good one. Prospect Hill Academy beat us 50-39. Then we played Boston Collegiate at home and we won 51-44. When we played South Shore we dominated the game in rebounds and also in fast break points. We played good defense and our teamwork paid off at the end. Against our arch-rivalry Prospect Hill Academy we played well, but had sloppy mistakes that made us turnover the ball a lot. Our defense wasn’t as good as it should have been and that team was just killing us in every point of the game. At home against Boston Collegiate we played smart and we learned from our mistakes from the Prospect Hill game which made us succeed, but we know we have to work on stopping good players that helped them stay close in the game.
The Girls’ basketball team beat South Shore 23-22 in a great game. They won because of the outstanding defense that was played. The team lost to Prospect Hill Academy 31-12. They were led by starting PG Tanya Dymski, eighth grader and first year player, with 12 points and 2 steals. The Girls’ basketball team lost to Boston Collegiate 26-23 and they were led by Sophomore Rachel Jean-Louis with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals and also Sophomore Sarah Joseph had a record-breaking 14 rebounds.
Both the Boys and Girls basketball teams go to Foxborough Charter on January 11 and then they have two home games. One is against the best team in the league for Boys and Girls and then they host Foxborough at home on a Sunday afternoon. The teams are almost halfway through the seasons and have the same record. They are one game under .500. The Girls head into Foxborough Charter in seventh place and the Boys head in to Foxborough Charter in sixth place.
Our fans support us well at all of our games and we love our fans the best. We hope to get into the MCSAO Tournament with both of our teams either making it far or winning the championship for our first year playing in a league. We hope to see all of our fans to cheer us onto our road to a championship. We are proud to play in this league and make our school happy whether it is our principal or the students that support the team in any or every aspect. I am proud to say that we love the yelling and cheering that the fans do. We have the greatest fans ever in sports.
December 14, 2006
Basketball season started for me. I made it past the tryouts. We have had a couple of practices and we have gotten to know some of our plays. We do a lot of drills and some scrimmages throughout all of the practices. I like practice because it helps me warm up well before a drill or a scrimmage. I also like how we stretch before practice. We get to shoot a couple of baskets before practice starts and work on our left hand lay-ups. We usually do drills like feet sliding or something like lay-up lines. I like how we have challenges like a lay-up contest with two teams and the loser has to run.
I hate that we have to do Georgia Techs because of people getting detention. For those who don’t know what Georgia Techs are, they are suicides but with five push-ups or sit-ups at each line. For every player that has detention, it counts to one Georgia Tech.
Our practices are one hour long on Mondays and sometimes Thursdays. Our practices are two hours long on Wednesdays because we get out of school earlier on Wednesdays. We have film sessions or regular meetings on Tuesdays. On Thursdays we either have games or days off. On Friday we have games. If a member of the basketball team gets a detention on any day that makes them absent to an event the team gets an additional Georgia Tech.
Our first home game was the best. Not only was it our season opener, it was our debut being in the MCSAO which stands for Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization. It was a very good game even though we lost. It was very close. Our team had 51 and the other team, MATCH, had 53. I liked that game because it was one of those games that each possession matters. The only reason we lost was because of some lousy mistakes that could have been prevented.
We played well for only having a couple of practices compared to the other school who probably has a gym because they have had more years of this basketball league. We are also happy for putting up a good game against a junior varsity and varsity team. We are better than that team and we know it. If we played better defense against the two players that only scored in the whole game we would have won.
I am looking forward for our second game against Codman Academy. We know that they are one of the best teams in the league so we are going to have a very hard challenge. I also am happy that our fans came to support us.
The dance team did very well at their half-time debut. Our crowd out-yelled and out-screamed their fans. I also am looking forward to the next game at home because it’s going to be wild. Come support the team while we are trying to win our games for a good first season.
