CCSC’s 2006-2007 season will be going by very fast before winter break. We had four more games scheduled to play before the winter break and the games will start moving very quickly with almost three games a week. The second game of the season was against Codman Academy. They were top in the league and we went to their home court to play them for the first time in 2006. We played with a lot of heart and determination. They played the first half of the game very sloppily because they were making lots of dumb mistakes easily. We saw that and then we started making easy mistakes as well. At the half they were winning a lot to a little. After halftime CCSC was on the verge of a great come back. With a minute left in the game, it was tied at 35. Then Codman was fouled and took two shots. He only made one and then they got the ball back and made a lay-up and the score was 38 to 35. Then CCSC scored again and the score was 38 to 37 and the buzzer went off. Codman Academy had beaten the girls and the boys.
Then we had a game against South Shore they were the worst team in the league but we were ready to go in to the game strong and try to beat them. We ended up beating them by 25 points. Also the CCSC girls beat the South Shore girls.
We then had a game against Prospect Hill. They were also tied for first. We went into the game proud of winning against South Shore. In the beginning of the game both teams were playing well but not the best they could have. Then Prospect Hill started pulling ahead and by the end CCSC could not make a come back. So just like the Codman game both the CCSC girls’ team and the CCSC boys’ team lost their games against Prospect Hill.
After the Prospect Hill game we were ready to play our final game before winter break against Boston Collegiate. Both Boston Collegiate and CCSC went into the game with a lot of effort and determination and they played really well but in the end CCSC was victorious. The final score was 51 to 44. Sadly, the CCSC girls’ team could not come out on top and lost to the Boston Collegiate girls with a score of 26 to 23. The season is going to be moving very rapidly after the break and CCSC will be ready for it.
December 15, 2006
The 2006- 2007 basketball season was about to start and I was as nervous as I could have been. The day was going by really slowly and I was very nervous because I had two demerits. If I got another warning I would get a detention and if I got a detention then I wouldn’t be able to play in the game, at least that is what I thought. I got through the day without getting the third demerit.
Mr. Hurst-Hiller called a meeting so that he could give the boys team members their jerseys. He told us that he had a conversation with Ms. Evans and that they made a deal that even if one got a detention you could still play in the game if one got to the game on time. I went home after the meeting and I ate a good meal. Then at around 5:30, I left my house and I went to see if anyone from the team was at the Kendall food court. I ran into a couple of people and we hung out for a couple of hours and then we slowly made our way to M.I.T to begin our season.
The boys all met and sat on the bleachers and we watched the girl’s game. The girls started off very slowly; they were losing by eight but then at the half the score was tied at ten. Then the boys went to the locker room and we changed. When we came back out I looked at the scoreboard and saw that the CCSC girls were beating the MATCH girls 26-19. Then we took the court.
We broke out into our pre-game routine. We did four corners passing, then we did pine tree lay-ups, and finally right before the game started we did lay-up lines. The game then started and the ref threw the ball up and no one got it so we had to toss it again and MATCH won the jump.
The game was really good. No team ever took a serious lead and the lead kept changing. At the half, CCSC was ahead of MATCH by four points. I hadn’t gotten to play yet but I wasn’t complaining. I knew the coaches had a good reason. I was still cheering on the rest of the team and trying to give them advice on the things they didn’t notice on the court. The game started up again and MATCH had caught up. Again, the game was very close. Nobody held onto the lead for longer then a minute. The game was almost over. There was less then a minute left in the game and we took a timeout. Then we got back in the game and Bayoan Garcia dribbled the ball up the court. He gave Jude Odige a nice pass and he penetrated the defense and he drove to the hole. He put up a shot. He missed but he got his own rebound and tried to put it up again but was unable to make the shot. The buzzer went off and CCSC had lost its first league game. That was a tough loss but it’s a long season and will learn a lot about basketball. If we practice and play hard, we will win.
