CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The first girls' softball team at CCSC played the Foxboro Lady Falcons last Monday. Being the home opener, the Lady Cougars took the field first. It was evident that they had come out not only wanting to play, but to play hard. The first inning was rough for the Lady Cougars as they allowed eight runs. However, with their first at bat they started to chip away at their opponents' score.
Leading the way for the home squad was 7th grader Alexcie Sowards who pitched two innings and went 3 for 3 with a sliding double in the first. Classmate Elizabeth Puerta Romera was successful on two at bats while teammates Jazzy Cruz, Paige Mochi, Andrea Morgan, and Courtney Johnson chipped in the with four more hits. Junior Johnson also showed some spectacular base running with a slide into first, two steals, and a run scored.
The team played hard during the remaining innings, but were unable to surpass the run total of the Falcons. The Lady Cougars face the Bulldogs of Boston Collegiate on Monday May 12 at 4:00pm at Danehy Field in North Cambridge.
