"Raising Good Kids in Hard Times"
Robert Evans, Ph.D.
There is no harder job than being a parent. Nothing else touches so much of a person so deeply and there is no training for it. Today parents find it harder to know how to raise children well, how to resist negative influences in the media and culture, how to help foster strength and resilience in children. Rob Evans will outline key dilemmas in raising children and adolescents today and offer concrete suggestions for successful coping at home and school.

Dr. Evans is a clinical and organizational psychologist and the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Mass. A former high school and pre-school teacher, and a former child and family therapist, he has worked with schools and families for thirty years. He has consulted to nearly a thousand schools around the country. He is the author of many articles and two books, Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing, and The Human Side of School Change.

Cougars Take Over the Hill

CCSC beats PHA for second win

June 2, 2008

The Cougars were ready for PHA

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- On a beautiful Monday afternoon at Danehy Park, the CCSC softball team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to Prospect Hill and cruised to a 14-8 victory. The visitors scored on an early error but CCSC roared right back to take its first lead. The fabulous play continued into the second inning where the Cougars scored a record 10 runs on several hits and heads-up baserunning.

Superb hitting and consistent pitching allowed CCSC to post its second win in a row and set up a rematch at Foxboro on Monday. Evelyn Jean-Louis went 2 for 2 and reached the basepaths 3 of 3 times. She and sister Leah ruled in the infield with defense while Lexi Sowards added three more strikeouts to her season total.

This marks only the second time that any CCSC team has beaten Prospect Hill since the Cougars were born in Cambridge. The soccer team beat PHA in the fall 2-1 thanks to the most magnificent play in school history as Carl Norgaisse converted a breakaway goal in the closing minutes.
