2011-2012 AP Literature & Composition

In this course we will embark on the careful reading and critical examination of a variety of literary works. From Shakespeare to Hosseini, we will study literature of different genres, written by authors with vastly different backgrounds. As we read, we will consider a piece’s themes, structure and form as well as how authors use conventions such as diction, syntax, tone, figurative language and symbolism to shape their texts. The goal of the course is to provide you with access to college level material so that you can enter your freshman year equipped with the necessary skills for success. We will spend the year practicing close, analytical reading of texts alongside a series of creative and analytical writing assignments that will help to formally bridge reading and analysis.
