Math Course Descriptions

Pre-Algebra

Pre-Algebra serves as an introduction to the symbolic language of Algebra as well as a solidification of the basic operations needed to be successful in developing fluency in mathematics.

Algebra 1

This year we will be going on a journey through the world of algebra.  During the first stretch of our expedition, our itinerary will include the exploration of the tools of algebra, functions and graphs, algebraic concepts, equations and inequalities, rate of change, proportions, and writing/graphing linear equations.  During the second stretch of our expedition, our itinerary will include the exploration of probability, systems of linear equations and inequalities, exponents, radical expressions, and polynomials.

Geometry

This course will introduce two and three dimensional geometry, inductive and deductive reasoning, and formal mathematic logic and proofs. The connections between Geometry and Algebra will be stressed.

Algebra 2/Trigonometry

This year we will be going on a journey through the world of advanced algebra.  This course allows students to explore and expand on all of the elementary algebra that they learned throughout their math careers.  During the first stretch of our expedition our itinerary will include the exploration of equations and inequalities, linear relations and functions, systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, irrational and complex numbers, exponential equations, logarithmic equations and radical equations.  We will venture into the world of the three-dimensional plane and synthetic division.  During the second stretch of our journey we will visit quadratic equations, rational expressions, trigonometric functions and their graphs, advanced probability and more.

Pre-calculus and Calculus will be added in the 2008-2009 school year.
