World History and Literature I

In ninth grade Humanities, we will read novels and other texts that help us hone our reading, writing and discussion skills.  Through an examination of a yearlong theme of "power" we will discuss and understand how power drives human behavior.

  • Read and answer focus questions for pages 24-25 in coursepack
  • Bring all flashcards on Monday

Monday:

  • Read pages 241-259 in Kaffir Boy
  • Read and answer focus questions for pages 31-34 in the coursepack

Tuesday:

  • Read pages 259-287 in Kaffir Boy
  • Read and answer focus questions for pages 28-29 in the coursepack

Wednesday:

  • Read pages 287-304 in Kaffir Boy
  • Read and answer focus questions for pages 35-39 in the coursepack

Thursday:

  • Read pages 304-232 in Kaffir Boy

Friday:

  • Finish Kaffir Boy and be prepared for a quiz on Tuesday.

What we did in class today:

  • Today, we listened to a lecture about Apartheid in South Africa and continued to refine and practice our speeches.

Homework for tomorrow:

  • Final draft of your injustice speech is due on Thursday! I need a hard copy and so do you!
  • Notecards for your speech are due on Friday!
  • Quest on Thursday! 
  • Read Kaffir Boy pages 130-150
  • Complete your Apartheid Timeline/Mindmap assignment.

Today, we continued on our march toward excellent speeches about injustice.  We also reviewed vocabulary and comma use.

  • Annotate pages 15-17 in your Coursepack
  • Complete the footnoted draft of your Kaffir Boy speech (final draft due next Wednesday!)
  • Complete flashcards for List 4.3

  • Today, we worked on reflecting on our major essay assignment (due the Friday before last).
  • We also began talking about our newest vocabulary list and continued working on the rough drafts of our speeches.

  • Read pages 74-91 in Kaffir Boy
  • Complete a So Basically/Definition Annotation for pages 8-11
  • Complete the Rough Draft of your speech by Friday!
