10th Grade Humanities
10th Grade Humanities - US History and Literature Part I: This course is a combined History and English/Language Arts class covering topics in the literature and history of The United States of America from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War and Reconstruction. The course will include the following 4 units: Revolution, American Slavery Part 1: The Slave Trade, American Slavery Part 2: Power and Resistance, and finally Civil War and Reconstruction. Each of these units will roughly correspond with the four academic quarters of the year. During the course, we will use several pieces of literature as a springboard for the study of themes central to the American Experience. These works will include In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez; the short stories of Washington Irving; Middle Passage, by Charles Johnson; The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, by Frederick Douglass; Othello, by William Shakespeare; The Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane; and Gem of the Ocean, by August Wilson. In addition, we will use a variety of primary and secondary sources to supplement our reading list.

- Consult your notes on the exam components and the corresponding study tools that you have at your disposal (those lecture notes are attached here if needed)
