"Raising Good Kids in Hard Times"
Robert Evans, Ph.D.
There is no harder job than being a parent. Nothing else touches so much of a person so deeply and there is no training for it. Today parents find it harder to know how to raise children well, how to resist negative influences in the media and culture, how to help foster strength and resilience in children. Rob Evans will outline key dilemmas in raising children and adolescents today and offer concrete suggestions for successful coping at home and school.

Dr. Evans is a clinical and organizational psychologist and the Executive Director of The Human Relations Service in Wellesley, Mass. A former high school and pre-school teacher, and a former child and family therapist, he has worked with schools and families for thirty years. He has consulted to nearly a thousand schools around the country. He is the author of many articles and two books, Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with The Crisis in Childrearing, and The Human Side of School Change.

Course 1: Physical Science

In 7th Grade Physical Science, we are exploring our surroundings - from our everyday lives to the Earth where we live to our solar system to the universe - and discovering how things work.  The main topics for the year are Earth and its Neighborhood, Chemical Building Blocks, and Amusement Park Physics.

To get an idea of how Ms. Norris planned for our first unit, take a look at her brainstorm!

Course 2: Geometry

This course introduces two and three dimensional geometry, inductive and deductive reasoning, and formal mathematic logic and proofs. The connections between Geometry and Algebra are stressed.  We use many hands-on investigations to discover geometrical conjectures.
