How big is the Earth?

Or should we ask ...

How small????

Here is Earth and the other rocky planets (if we count Pluto as a planet):




Earth looks pretty big, huh?  Well, let's look at the REST of the planets:


Hmm...  Maybe Earth isn't so big?  But at least it's right in the middle of the pack ... 4 planets bigger, and 4 planets smaller.  But wait ... what about the SUN?


Wow, the Sun is HUGE!  It must be a really BIG star! How about some of the other stars, though?  (All of these things in the next picture are STARS that shine bright in our night sky!)


But ... are there any BIGGER stars???


And remember ... there are BILLIONS of stars in our galaxy.  What about other galaxies?  This is a picture from the Hubble Space Telescope.  Each dot and smudge is a WHOLE GALAXY:


Here is a close-up of just a TINY portion of that galaxy picture.  Remember, each dot is a galaxy.  WOW.  Makes you realize how small we are, huh?
