Course 1: U.S. History & Literature I

Welcome 10th grade students and parents!  This page will be helpful as we progress through the year together. It will be a long, work-filled year. Students will work harder (and smarter) than ever -- studying, writing, reading, thinking. This is a crucial year. We must prepare for the ELA MCAS, other exams to come (the SATS, etc.), and life in general. Use this page to stay on top of your work. Use this page to succeed. Use it often and well.

10th Grade Humanities will expose students to historical events ranging from the revolutions of the late 1700s through this country's period of Reconstruction during the second half of the 19th century.  Students will read literature that is complimentary, though not necessarily produced during the time period being studied during the portion of the course devoted to history.  Students will explore complicated questions and face difficult truths.  Students will write about topics ranging from the personal to the concretely historical.  Students will learn how to present and use evidence, quickly realizing that unsupported assertions will not fly.  Students will end the year familiar with key events that occurred in the history of this country, but will also be capable of demonstrating a depth of knowledge and the ability to connect themes and  ideas.
