Amy Daniels loves looking at mathematical equations through the eyes of her students.
“They often think of new ways to solve problems,” she says. “Every year I see students come up with completely new problem-solving strategies. It is also amazing to see students develop both socially and academically over the course of the year or years that they at CCSC.”
Ms. Daniels says she believes her role as a teacher is to give students the skills and understandings that will not only help them get into a good college, but allow them to succeed there in their desired professions.
In her teachings, the Wallkill, New York native says she tries to emulate the approach her own teachers used in helping make the subject matter relevant.
“My favorite teacher was Mr. McCormick.,” Ms. Daniels says. “He was able to make economics come alive for me. He brought the material to life by bringing in current news articles. He also had us choose stocks and track the market daily. The class seemed like a lesson in life, not just material that we had to learn for the AP exam.”
Ms. Daniels, who holds two master’s degrees (one from Columbia University and another from Pace University), earned her undergraduate degree at Boston College.
What made her choose a career in teaching?
“I thought of my own formal education and how it affected my opportunities and world view,” she says.
