“My favorite teacher was Mrs. Verdi,” says Aleida Sanabria. “She taught two of my high school English classes and directed the drama club and the Shakespearian Festival. She helped me become a better writer and showed me how to balance work and extra-curricular activities.”
Now in her 13th year, Ms. Sanabria says she tries to incorporate that same approach into her own teachings.
“I believe that all students can learn and reach the goals that they want to achieve,” she says. “In order to achieve those goals, students must be willing to take risks and challenge themselves.”
Ms. Sanabria, who grew up in Westfield, Massachusetts, and studied at Mount Holyoke College, Middlebury College, and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish/Latino literature and theater, and a master’s degree in Spanish.
“I wanted to teach students the Spanish language and Hispanic literature, history and culture,” she says. “I love all levels of Spanish. They are all unique.”
CCSC is unique too, she says, and that is what makes it such a rewarding place to work.
“We have high expectations of our students because we know they can achieve great things,” she says. “We also have high expectations of ourselves. The faculty supports each other in making the students our focus. We are all here to educate these young leaders. I have never worked with a better group of faculty.”
