About Ms. Zarecki

Getting to know her students and playing a small role in helping each of them chase their dreams is what makes teaching so enjoyable for Esther Zarecki.

“Being a science teacher is also wonderful because I get to be a little adventurous and fun, since that's what science is all about,” she says.

“My favorite subject in high school was obviously biology. My 9th grade science teacher was the person that first made me excited about science. She was always so full of energy about the subject and it became contagious. Science never ceases to amaze me because we are always finding something new about ourselves and the world that we live in.”

Ms. Zarecki, who earned a master’s degree in teaching from Fordham University and a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Yale University, taught science to middle school students in Brooklyn, NY before coming to CCSC.
“I've always loved working with children - they are such bright and resilient people with a worldview that adults seem to lose as we grow up. At the end of my college career, I wasn't entirely sure what my next steps were. At the beginning of my senior year, a representative from Teach For America made a compelling speech regarding the need for more quality teachers in the classroom. I realized I had the potential to fill that need, so I applied. I was offered a position to teach in NYC and spent the last 2 years teaching middle school science."
In retrospect, she says, education has always played an important role in her life.  "Although neither of my parents made it to college, they believed a solid education can provide opportunities and thus made sure we met high expectations. The connection between education and opportunities is why I chose to stay in education. Hopefully, my efforts will help my students receive boundless opportunities because of their gains in education.”
