About Ms. Thayer

When choosing her career, Heidi Thayer says she wanted to work in a profession that would allow her to use her brain and, at the same time, help other people achieve their goals.

Teaching proved to be the perfect combination.

“Teaching enables me to be learning all of the time: from researching teaching materials, sources and strategies, to information gathered from colleagues, to my students themselves,” she says. “The best part is knowing that I am positively influencing so many lives in just one school year.”

An Exeter, New Hampshire native, Ms. Thayer graduated from the University of New Hampshire and went on to earn two master’s degrees from Simmons College: one in English and one in Teaching.

Ms. Thayer has a background in creative writing and editing and publishing student work, and is looking forward to applying her past experiences to her first full-year teaching at CCSC.

“I worked at a non-profit creative writing center called The Telling Room in Portland, Maine (http://tellingroom.org/) and as an editorial assistant before starting my master’s program,” she says. “Last year, I did my student teaching at CCSC, and this past summer, I taught CCSC’s ELA summer course.”

One of her most influential teachers was her middle school English teacher, Mr. Ball. “He had a sense of humor, treated us like little adults, and loved to sing the ‘Conjunction, conjunction, what’s your function?’ song.”

Ms. Thayer says she is amazed at how committed the teachers, students, and parents are to achieving success. “I have incredible colleagues and I love feeling like I have accomplished something positive every single day.”
