Making art has always been a huge part of Jessica DaSilva’s life, but it never came full circle for her until she started sharing her knowledge with others in the classroom. She is excited to be a part of the CCSC community.

“The energy and enthusiasm for teaching here was palpable, even during my first visit in the summer. I thrive in environments where I am surrounded by people who are passionate about what they do,” Ms. DaSilva says.

Ms. DaSilva, who holds a master of art education from UMass Dartmouth and a bachelor of fine arts from Rhode Island School of Design, taught art at Nativity Prep in New Bedford before coming to CCSC.

Her high school art teacher, Mr. Willard, always encouraged her to push herself further in her own art and taught her  that no one will realize your dreams for you, you have to take the reins yourself. Now she tries to instill such lessons in how she teaches her own students.

“As a secondary teacher, I am able to witness the transition of young people into mature individuals and hopefully inspire them along the way,” she says. “It is really a time when horizons are wide open and students are discovering what they have to offer the world.”
