About Mr. Cash

Every year of education is important, but for Karsten Cash, 9th grade stands out as a particularly important grade.

“Ninth grade is near and dear to my heart because this was the year that I made the great transformation in my life,” Mr. Cash says. “This was the year that I got on track for college.  Prior to that, most of the teachers that I had throughout my formative years could not have cared less whether or not I came to school.  College?  The ‘C’ word?  This was never discussed anywhere in the two schools I attended between 1st and 8th grades.”

That’s part of what brought Mr. Cash to CCSC. The Wesleyan University alum, who grew up in Roxbury, Massachusetts, wants to make sure every student he comes in contact with reaches his or her full potential.

“I am very concerned about providing opportunities for poor and disenfranchised,” says Mr. Cash, who is Head of the Lower School. “I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  However, I always knew that I would be in service to African American youth in the inner-city of Boston.  Education was my ticket to success.  It was instilled in me to position myself to assist other students and families to accomplish the same types of things that I had.”

Mr. Cash, who is entering his seventh year at CCSC, says this school is making a difference for every child who chooses to succeed.

“Attending CCSC is a commitment between the school and the family,” he says. “Students and parents are asked to contribute more to the academic growth of their child than they ever have before.  Students must be held accountable for their work and responsible for their actions.  If you are not willing to aggressively tackle what needs to be done, then CCSC may not be the right school for you!”
