About Ms. Evans

For Paula Evans, it is not by accident, but by design that CCSC is a demanding, fast-paced, and competitive place for students and faculty alike.

“Life in the 21st century is fast paced,” she says. “There are lots of opportunities, but only if you are willing to work for them.  Nothing will be handed to you and the competition is fierce.  A high school diploma is not enough.  One must attend and graduate from college.  Knowledge leads to success, money, and myriad opportunities which , if you are lucky, can equal happiness.”

Ms. Evans chose education as her career initially because she loved learning and loved French. “I wanted to share my love of the language and literature with others,” says the Chatham College graduate.

Ms. Evans grew up in Boston and earned a master’s degree from Harvard University. During her 40 year career, she has been a teacher, principal, and administrator. She has taught at both the high school and college level.

“Seeing the lights go one for one’s students is one of the best aspects of teaching,” she says, “and getting excited with students about subject matter can be magical.”

As a child, Ms. Evans says she had no idea what she wanted to be when she grew up.

“I liked working with kids,” she says “I worked in the public library, I babysat, I played school from the time I was three.”

Her French teacher, Mrs. Athos, and Miss Miller, who taught history, left their mark on her.

“They were brilliant teachers.  I could not wait to get to their classes.  I wanted to be just like them, to mimic them.  They were funny, smart, creative, and young!”
